Airports / Flights

The Gold Coast has its own domestic airport at Coolangatta, just 20 minutes south of the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre with regular flights from all capital cities. Services are provided domestically Qantas, Virgin Blue and Jetstar. The closest international airport is in Brisbane.

Climate

The Gold Coast has a sub-tropical climate with plenty of sunshine year round (in fact an average of 300 days a year). Average Winter temperatures range from 9 to 21 degrees Celsius (48 to 69 degrees Fahrenheit).

The national telephone number for all emergency services in Australia including Ambulance, Fire, and Police is "000".

Banks

Banks in Australia are open from 09:30am – 16:00pm Monday to Thursday and from 09:30pm – 17:00pm on Fridays. Banks are closed weekends and public holidays. Automatic teller machines are open 24 hours and are located around the city. Facilities for exchange of currency are available at the airport, banks and select hotels.

Credit Cards

Credit cards are widely accepted and include Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club.

Tax

Australia applies a tax to the purchase of both goods and services called the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The rate that applies to taxable products and services is 10%. Tax is included in advertised prices.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted in Queensland; within 4m of non-residential entrances, between the flags at patrolled beaches; within 10m of children’s playground equipment open to the public, at restaurants and in any licensed bar or club where drinks or food are consumed either indoors or outdoors.

$150 on the spot fines apply for breaches.

Electricity

The electrical supply is 240 volts, 50Hz with a flat 3 pin plug connection for appliances.
