The need to reduce greenhouse emissions has arisen and a re-examination of the role which renewable energy—particularly bioenergy can play in
Australia’s electricity supply is imperative. The biomass energy resource available in Australia is very large and this renewable energy which
essentially has zero net emissions can generate power in a controlled and continuous manner.
The Clean Energy Council has thus identified the need of a Bioenergy Roadmap that will provide a strategic plan for the growth of the bioenergy sector
in Australia to 2020.
The Roadmap will document changes required in terms of:
- Practices, processes and facilities of the waste management, agricultural and food processing industries;
- The nature of bioenergy projects, and how they are developed and financed;
- The operation of the electricity system;
- Government policies; and
- Education and training for those involved in the bioenergy supply chain.
The project has been divided into six stages with the projected timeline to be:
| Projected timeline: |
| Stages 1 & 2: | completion by January/February 2008 |
| Stage 3: | completion by February/March 2008 |
| Stage 4: | completion by April 2008 |
| Stage 5: | completion by 30th May 2008 |
| Stage 6: | completion by 30th June 2008 |
In order to meet the target dates above, we are encouraging stakeholders to contribute to the process as a matter of urgency. At this point of time we
are gathering information on the biomass resources in Australia, evaluating their potential and prioritising them according to their implementation
feasibility. In line with that, please contribute to the resource matrix that is attached to this email (i.e. Refer to the “Input Requirements”
Document.).
Feel free to contact Franz Grasser (franzgrasser@distributedpower.com.au) or David Moo (david@cleanenergycouncil.org.au) if you should require
further information.
