Senior Electrical Engineer - Design

Econnect Australia/New Zealand is a part of the Econnect Group of companies (www.econnect.com) with headquarters in the UK. Econnect has been a leader in the grid integration of renewable and distributed generation since 1995. Due to the high level of business growth in the Asia Pacific region, Econnect Australia/New Zealand is looking to expand the team.

The Senior Electrical Engineer - Design will be expected to provide a first class electrical design, specification and project engineering service to our clients, from front end design through to construction. This will include preparation of tender documents for generation projects, assessing and evaluating tender submissions, design of protection schemes and design and specification of substations and reticulation systems. The successful candidate will also have to negotiate with Network Service Providers to gain their acceptance of proposed connection designs in order to gain best value solutions for our clients.

The role can be based in Econnect's office in either Melbourne or Wellington, some travel within Australia and New Zealand is required. The role will report to Econnect Australia's Managing Director.

Responsibilities:

  • To design, specify and select appropriate electrical plant and equipment including switchgear, cables, transformers, protection and earthing systems as required for connection of generation projects at voltages up to 500kV.
  • Writing technical specifications and associated documentation for tender and procurement and evaluation of tender submissions.
  • To negotiate methods of implementation with network service providers, contractors and suppliers in order to gain the best value solutions for our clients.
  • To liaise with clients to interpret and define scope, requirements and deliverables, prepare quotations, estimates and schedules.
  • To establish, maintain and develop first class client relationships.
  • To ensure project plans and documentation are up to date and effective.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors or Higher Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer, or else eligible for or working towards Chartered Engineer status
  • 5 years of electrical engineering experience with a minimum of 2 years working in a consulting/project environment
  • Knowledge of protection and control systems including SCADA applications would be advantageous
  • Project planning and management skills

Salary
