Most inverters can communicate with networks and devices through a software communication client (SCC), and this communication is commonly standardised by the Common Smart Inverter Profile - Australia (CSIP-AUS) protocol.

From July 2026, an update to the protocol, CSIP-AUS v1.2, is expected to become mandatory in some Australian jurisdictions through the standard SA TS 5573:2025. We are updating our approved inverter list accordingly.

Manufacturers are encouraged to get tested and certified through the Australian National University (ANU) national testing and certification service so that these details can be added to the approved inverter list.

If you already have SCC details listed on your approved inverter models through testing by SA Power Networks (SAPN) under the CSIP-AUS v1.1a Dynamic Export Pathway, you should still apply for testing with ANU to the new CSIP-AUS v1.2. SA Power Networks testing closed on 1 November 2025.

Instructions

Follow these steps to include or update SCC details including CPIS-AUS on the CEC approved inverter list

  • Follow the instructions on ANU’s CSIP-AUS testing and certifications website to have the appropriate witness testing and certification completed. This testing should cover all models for which SCC details will be shown on the approved inverter list.
  • Once certified, ANU will send details of certified inverter models directly to us.
    • If the inverter models that have been certified are already included on the approved inverter list, we will raise an application to update the listing with SCC details. We will send the contact(s) listed on your initial application(s) with us an invoice for $1,000 to pay to cover administration costs (see more detail below). Once this is paid, the listing will be updated within five business days.
    • If the inverter models that have been certified are still under assessment by us, we will add SCC details on the listing once it is approved. No additional fee will be charged for this.
    • If the inverter models that have been certified are not on the approved inverter list and you have not yet applied to join the approved inverter list, notify us in your application. No additional fee will be charged for this.

Fees

As described above, we will charge an administration fee of $1,000 to cover the administration costs of updating existing approved inverters. The fee applies to each application as follows:

  • Each application is for a single inverter manufacturer and software client manufacturer, with no cap on the number of models that can be included, provided all relevant test reports are provided by ANU on the same day.
  • If test reports are provided on different days, then they will be processed separately as different applications, each with its own application fee.

We encourage manufacturers to apply to ANU with all their relevant inverter models at the same time to avoid multiple fees.
