The Clean Energy Council (CEC), in its capacity as the product listing body, intends to suspend several battery models from Bytewatt Technology Co., Ltd (NEOVOLT), effective 15 September 2026, due to non-compliance with the CEC’s Terms and Conditions (T&Cs). 

The intended suspension decision was not taken on the basis of a product recall or any identified product safety issue.

Suspended products are ineligible for small-scale technology certificates (STCs). Given the quantity of existing stock in Australia, this will have a serious impact for some businesses and consumers should the suspension proceed.

Reasons:

  • The IEC 62619 certificate that was relied upon to approve models BW-BAT-9.6P I to VI for listing is now invalid.
  • Nameplate labels on products supplied in Australia were found to be inconsistent with those in the testing and certification documentation initially supplied to the CEC.
  • The manufacturer has failed to clarify why different variants of the BW-BAT-9.6P model were imported and is unable to distinguish which of their imported stock belongs to each variant.

The suspension decision was not taken on the basis of a product recall or any identified product safety issue.

Timeline and next steps

  • 7 September 2026 – We notified industry via email of intention to suspend the NEOVOLT battery models above. 
  • 15 September 2026 – The NEOVOLT battery models may be suspended and industry notified via email and the product suspensions and delistings page. Affected products are no longer eligible for STCs from this date.
  • 15 September 2026 to 14 December 2026 – Manufacturer has three months to complete corrective actions. 
    • If corrective actions are completed, the suspension is lifted and industry notified via email and the product suspensions and delistings page. Affected products are eligible for STCs again from the date the suspension is lifted.
    • If corrective actions are not completed, the NEOVOLT battery models above are de-listed and industry notified via email and the product suspensions and delistings page.

Installers, designers and retailers are reminded to check the Clean Energy Council Approved Products lists before installing PV modules, inverters and batteries to ensure they are eligible for small-scale technology certificates (STCs) and other program and network requirements.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I still install stock I already have?

    From the date of suspension, installations using these products are no longer eligible for STCs until the suspension is lifted, if that should occur. The products are also not eligible for any program or network that requires use of CEC Approved Products.

  • What happens with my rebate/STCs?

    Should you install a suspended product from the date of suspension, and before a suspension is lifted, the application for STCs will be rejected.

  • Why has CEC suspended the product models?

    The CEC suspended the product models for the following reasons:

    • The IEC 62619 certificate that was relied upon to approve models BW-BAT-9.6P I to VI for listing is now invalid.
    • Nameplate labels on products supplied in Australia were found to be inconsistent with those in the testing and certification documentation initially supplied to the CEC.
