The Australian Energy Market Commission’s (AEMC) released a Consultation Paper entitled Facilitating electric vehicle charging infrastructure under Commonwealth grants (ERC0436), regarding a rule change request from the Federal Government to enable its Accelerating Electric Vehicle Charging Program. 

In our submission, we advocate for a model where networks enable deployment but ownership and operation of chargers stay with competitive market providers. We oppose putting EV charging assets on regulated asset bases, which would socialise costs across all electricity consumers including those who may never use a public charger.
