The Clean Energy Council will travel to Canberra today as part of a new 50 plus-strong alliance to call on the Federal Government to ensure all Australian households - no matter if they rent, live in an apartment or cannot afford the upfront costs - can slash their energy bills for good.

The Energy Bill Savings Plan is the first priority for Renew Australia for All, a new alliance of more than 50 organisations from across faith groups, social services, unions, regional communities and climate and environment organisations, launching in Canberra on September 11. The Clean Energy Council is a founding member of Renew Australia for All.

The Clean Energy Council will travel to Canberra to meet with decision makers and ask for urgent measures to expand access to home energy upgrades, with a $5 billion investment to support those hit hardest by the cost of living to access rooftop solar, batteries and energy efficient appliances.

Clean Energy Council Acting Chief Policy & Impact Officer, Con Hristodoulidis, said that the Clean Energy Council had joined the alliance to ensure that the benefits of Australia's rooftop solar success story and the clean energy transition more broadly, are maximised for all households and businesses.

“Australian households are leading the rest of the world in adopting and enjoying the immense benefits of rooftop solar, with lower bills and greater peace of mind, thanks in part to the success of several Federal, state and territory incentive programs over the years.

More than 3 million Australian households have already reduced their power bills by installing rooftop solar, saving an average of $1390 per year. However, renters, apartment dwellers, social housing tenants, and those unable to afford the upfront costs have so far missed out.

The Energy Bill Savings Plan is seeking to ensure everyone benefits. They are calling for a $5 billion down-payment to be followed by a minimum of $50 billion over 10 years to repower Australian homes and communities with rooftop solar, batteries, electric appliances and thermal improvements.
