The following statement is attributable to Clean Energy Council General Manager – Advocacy & Investment, Anna Freeman:

“The latest GenCost report released by the CSIRO today reaffirms the longstanding reality that renewables are the lowest-cost, and most practical option to transition Australia’s energy system.

The truth remains that renewables remain the lowest cost form of energy, even when taking into account the cost of firming these generation assets, including the costs of storage, transmission, and system security.
Anna Freeman Clean Energy Council General Manager - Advocacy & Investment

“The analysis shows capital costs of large-scale solar and batteries are continuing to fall, down 8 per cent and 20 per cent year-on-year, respectively due to economies of scale and continued innovation. This is significant because of the strong potential for these technologies in Australia, to capably work in tandem with others to deliver lower-cost, more reliable clean energy from an abundance of sunlight and land.

“Onshore wind costs, while increasing over the immediate post-pandemic period, have also significantly eased over the past year, in alignment with supply chain constraints.”
