The Clean Energy Council acknowledges the release of the Queensland Energy Roadmap today by the Queensland State Government.

As coal plants retire, renewables backed by storage provide the lowest-cost and most reliable path to future-proof the State’s energy grid, maintain system security and deliver reliable energy for Queensland households and businesses.

While the Government has made a decision to pivot from the State’s Renewable Energy Targets, renewable energy will continue to play a role in Queensland's future energy mix with an additional 6.8GW of wind and solar and 3.8GW of storage by 2030.

The cost-saving benefits of rooftop solar have also been extended to more Queenslanders through the Supercharged Solar for Renters Program, which is welcomed.

Queenslanders have already demonstrated strong support for renewable energy. In the first half of 2025, Queensland led the nation in rooftop solar installations. More than 1.1 million households and businesses across the state now have solar systems, with a combined installed capacity of 7.2 gigawatts, equivalent to the capacity of four and a half Callide coal-fired power stations.

Queensland has always been a resources state; wind and solar are the next resource that will support tens of thousands of well-paid jobs and bring billions of dollars of private investment and benefits to regional Queensland communities.

In 2024, $2.2 billion was invested into large-scale renewable generation in Queensland, with a further $237-$327 million in benefit contributions estimated to flow through to communities, landholders and regional councils between 2024 and 2030.

The Clean Energy Council looks forward to working with the Queensland Government, market bodies and industry partners on the implementation of the Energy Roadmap and the continued expansion of reliable, affordable and clean energy across the state.
