The Clean Energy Council (CEC) welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) review into unsolicited selling and lead generation.
We encourage the ACCC to promote regulatory frameworks that enable clear and effective protections for consumers experiencing unsolicited selling and promotes best practice in industry.
The CEC is supportive of enhanced consumer protections throughout the entire CER journey, rather than a blanket ban on all unsolicited sales or lead generation. A ban risks focusing efforts on a single stage of the customer journey, rather than taking a well-rounded approach to sales, installation and after-care.
A ban on these sales methods may also lead to reduced clean energy adoption, limited face-to-face engagement for consumers and impacts on CER retailers with legitimate and considered business practices.
