The term of office of three elected directors will expire at the 2024 AGM along with one director serving under a casual vacancy. In addition, due to a resignation, one vacant position is also available for election at the 2024 AGM. There are five vacancies to be filled by election. 

At our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 26 November 2024, Clean Energy Council members will conduct an election of directors in accordance with clause 10 of the Clean Energy Council’s Constitution.

Across these vacancies, the three nominees with the highest votes cast will serve a three-year term, while the nominees with the fourth and fifth highest votes will serve a one-year term.

The Constitution of the Clean Energy Council Ltd provides for the Board of Directors to be comprised of not more than nine elected directors who must be a member or an employee of a member. The relevant provisions of the Constitution are set out in Appendix 1 of the Call for Nominations Notice.


The role of the Board of Directors

The primary role of the Board is to:

  • Set organisation strategy and oversee its delivery
  • Monitor the organisation’s performance and impact
  • Ensure adequate resources are available to achieve the organisation’s strategy
  • Oversee processes to comply with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee a risk management framework that supports informed decision making by the organisation
  • Report progress to and align collective interests of members, board, management and employees.

Directors are not representatives of their employers but instead have a duty to act in the interests of the CEC.

Biography

Dr Algeo recognises opportunities that align strategically with an organisation’s vision to achieve exceptional results through and with their people. Her focus on Indigenous engagement in the journey to net zero has resulted in deep connections with First Nations’ communities and industry representation in robust forums. Chivonne is a member of the AICD, a current Director of the Jack Thompson Foundation, focused on Indigenous Self-Determination; previous Chair, Company Secretary and Chair of the Governance, Risk and Compliance Committee for WHC, managing AUD$48m of affordable housing; and a Director and Chair of several committees with the Australian Institute of Project Management.

Biography

Linden is the Project Director for Offshore Wind at Alinta Energy. Linden has over 10 years’ experience in offshore energy where he worked in the upstream gas industry before moving into renewables in 2022 to support Alinta Energy develop its offshore wind pipeline.  Linden holds a BEng (Hons 1), BSc, GAICD, and is the winner of the Engineers Australia Emerging Professional Engineer of the Year 2024 – WA. Linden has held committee roles on the SUT and AIE young professionals, is regularly engaged in community and university outreach, and is a frequent presenter to the Alinta Energy and joint venture Boards.

Linden recognises the value of collaboration and coordination across the clean energy industry to tackle common challenges and was responsible for Alinta Energy joining the CEC in 2022. Linden is a regular participant in CEC’s offshore wind directorate and taskforce. Linden is a strategic thinker and is passionate about effective risk management, systems and processes. Having recently completed the AICD Company Directors Course to formalise his previous governance experience, Linden is keen to apply his enthusiasm to shape the future success of the clean energy industry in Australia via the important work of the CEC.

Biography

As GE Vernova’s Commercial Director, Jackie Brown has responsibility for expanding the company’s presence in Australia and across the region. During her two-decade career with GE, Jackie has held senior roles across multiple countries, directing commercial teams in Australia and across key growth markets including Europe, India, Vietnam and Thailand. Leading GE Vernova’s experienced commercial and technical teams, Jackie has a deep understanding of the renewables sector in Australia and is involved in all aspects of wind power projects in one of the company’s most important markets. Jackie has experience as a Director on a GEV subsidiary board.

I am committed to advancing the rollout of renewable energy in Australia as we pursue our goal of achieving 82% renewables and beyond. I aim to contribute my extensive experience in the renewable energy sector to the board, drawing on two decades of expertise with one of the world’s largest original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). My in-depth knowledge of both local and global wind markets, combined with a strong background in negotiating complex agreements, positions me to identify best practices and focus on harmonising the rollout of renewable energy projects across Australia.

Laura Caspari is ENGIE Australia’s Managing Director of Renewables, recently returning after 15 years in the industry in the USA. She determined the commercial strategy for ENGIE’s renewables business in the USA and Canada - currently operating at 6GW and set to treble by 2030 under plans laid out during her tenure, and her team acquired 10GW of wind, solar and storage in 2022-2023. Laura’s a board member of numerous ENGIE entities and completing the AICD’s Company Directors Course, and she has previous board experience in the USA. Her career began in Australia, spending three years developing wind in western Victoria from 2006 – 2009.

Angela is a highly experienced corporate and government executive, with more than 20 years' operating across national and global markets in the energy and recycling industries. Prior to joining Tilt Renewables, Angela was the Global Chief Financial & Sustainability Officer of Sims Lifecycle Services. Previous roles include Executive Director Energy Delivery and JSSC of NSW Government, General Manager Commercial for AGL’s New Energy business as well as other senior leadership roles at AGL Energy across wholesale trading, strategy and retail.  Angela has a Bachelor of Science from UNSW, is a Chartered Accountant and an Australian Institute of Company Directors Graduate.

I am nominating for the CEC Board to inject fresh ideas and focus on the critical issues facing the clean energy sector. As EGM of Government and Sustainability at Tilt Renewables, an Australian-owned renewable energy leader, I believe the CEC should be the undisputed voice for the renewable electricity industry. With many new investments directed towards clean energy projects and the necessary transmission infrastructure, it is crucial for the CEC to lead this transition. If elected, I will advocate for increased engagement with all political spectrums, proactive interaction with challenging mainstream media, and effective countering of misinformation on digital platforms.

Leon is an accomplished energy and infrastructure professional with over 20 years of experience spanning development, trading, transmission, distribution, and construction within the energy sector. As Head of Delivery at Enerven, he leads the national delivery of critical infrastructure assets. His extensive knowledge of the national electricity market equips him to navigate industry challenges and future trends. Leon's strategic and commercial approach is complemented by his ability to break down complex issues and communicate effectively. His collaborative leadership fosters alignment across boards, management, and teams, while maintaining a strong focus on compliance and regulatory standards.

I am a dedicated governance executive with 20 years of experience in the energy sector. As a Fellow of both the Governance Institute of Australia and the Institute of Engineers Australia, I bring expertise in governance, risk management, and strategic leadership. Currently, I oversee the operations over AUD 1 billion worth of utility-scale solar assets at Gentari Solar Australia. I have served on the board of Zero Emissions Noosa and chaired its governance subcommittee, demonstrating my commitment to sustainability and effective governance. I am passionate about advancing Australia’s renewable energy landscape and confident in contributing value to board-level decision-making.

Matthew has 18 years’ industry experience, across Federal Government, State Government and private sector renewable development. He is currently the APAC Head of Regulatory Affairs at global utility, RWE, which is developing to build and operate a portfolio of onshore wind, solar, battery and offshore wind projects across Australia. Matthew is an experienced executive, serving on boards of the Global Wind Energy Council for the past 3 years as well as RWE project companies. A recovering lawyer, he is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Matthew chaired the CEC’s Market Investment and Grid Directorate in 2022-2023.

I want to help guide the next phase of the CEC’s evolution, as the industry navigates a changing political climate. Suzanne is an experienced executive who is passionate about enabling decarbonisation in Australia. With extensive regulatory, legal, governance, communications, and policy reform experience across electricity, gas, retail and climate change frameworks, she has deep insights into energy market design and integrated energy and climate change policies.  Suzanne has held several senior roles at the Energy Security Board (ESB) and Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) delivering regulatory reform programs. She is currently Executive General Manager Corporate Affairs at AGL, responsible for leading sustainability, policy and regulatory advocacy, communications, and stakeholder engagement. Suzanne holds Bachelors of Economics and Law from the ANU.

Gero Farruggio has extensive experience in the energy sector. A graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), he has held director roles at Wood Mackenzie, SERA (founder) and Rystad Energy, driving strategic growth and innovation. Gero also served on the boards of Queenscliff Surf Life Saving Club and St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, enhancing his governance expertise. His contributions to Energy Lab and Ecogeneration magazine further reflect his commitment to sustainability and collaboration, empowering organizations to achieve their objectives.

In my global role at Rystad, and previously at Woodmac, I gained valuable insights and networks that can enhance our local decision-making processes. I envision a CEC that not only addresses local but global challenges, like developing domestic supply chains – attracting the leading players in established and emerging technologies. My experience across all energy sectors and global renewable supply chains will empower the board as we navigate the complexities of a diverse energy mix on our journey to renewable goals.

Dennis Freedman is the Managing Director ANZ for Aquila Clean Energy APAC. The Aquila Group has over AUD$20b of renewable assets across 19 countries. Dennis has more than 15 years of Australian energy experience across a unique blend of both renewable generation and electricity transmission. He has led over $1b of new transmission development and 3GW of renewable portfolio development and M&A across Australia and New Zealand.He is an independent thought leader on energy policy, an active voice across the industry and a passionate storyteller. Dennis has previously held senior roles at AusNet Services, Octopus Investments, Jemena and Ampol Energy.

Our industry, despite recent successes, still faces strong challenges as we face into government elections and the policy uncertainty that this brings. During my time on the CEC Board to date, I’ve been actively involved in shaping our strategy and governance, leveraging my extensive industry knowledge and networks. I know how important storytelling is for connecting with our stakeholders and making sure people understand our message. It is not just about celebrating our successes or asking for what we need; storytelling is also the key to countering misinformation.  I’m committed to helping the CEC continue to lift its game in this regard. With more than 37 years of Australian and International experience in the construction industry, I have progressed my career from grass roots as a Project Coordinator in the UAE to Country Manager of Australia for North American based, PCL Construction. In 2021, I was appointed to serve as a Director for PCL’s Pacific Rim business. A Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Registered Building Practitioner (Victoria), I have led commercial projects, Private Public Partnership projects and renewable solar projects in North America and Australia with a combined value of over CAD$5B, recently securing ECI for Australia’s largest solar farm project.

I view the opportunity to serve on the council as a way to give back to an industry which has been a catalyst to my decision to settle permanently in Australia. Serving currently as a strategic advisor to Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service, I understand the power of unbiased mentorship, critical thinking and advocacy, positioning me to support new market entrants, established companies, investors and advocates alike. A career stretching across many industries, both domestic and abroad, equips me with an understanding of what processes achieve results. My current role leading the Australian Energy & Resources business for one of Australia’s leading engineering consulting firms (GHD), exposes me to a wide variety of energy stakeholders: across government, private investment, supply chains and industry bodies. Backed by AICD accreditation and many years of finance, risk, strategy and governance experience in executive roles, I would seek to contribute to achieve the shared purpose of helping all proponents, large or small, to play their part in the energy transition.

Through leading the Australian Energy business for GHD, I have the privilege of interacting with many proponents who make-up the community leading the energy transition. Whether it is solar or wind generation, battery or hydropower storage, transmission or energy regulators, and many of the other proponents that are emerging as viable options, I would bring that accumulated knowledge and understanding to the CEC board. Chris has been driving the development of environmental and clean energy markets globally for over 20 years. He currently serves on CORE Markets’ board and has previously held various other company board positions. Chris was the APAC Head of Carbon and Renewable Energy Markets at TFS Green, where he led, developed and grew the team across Australia, Singapore, Tokyo, and Seoul to become the region’s leading clean energy, environmental and carbon market experts. During this time, he co-founded the Renewable Energy Hub, a climate services and technology business. Under Chris’s leadership, the two businesses merged in October 2022 to create CORE Markets, an end-to-end climate solutions, software, and markets partner for business.

Chris Halliwell is the voice of Australia’s clean energy and carbon market proponents.  He wishes to collaborate with other key stakeholders to help accelerate Australia’s energy transition.  Chris brings in-market experience gained in Australian and international environmental markets and is passionate about reducing barriers of market access and balancing social, cultural and nature goals.

Sarah brings 20 years’ experience in technical and strategic leadership roles across the energy sector in Australia, the UK and New Zealand. Sarah has worked for renewable energy developers, gen-tailers, transmission, and distribution network operators with experience from development through to operations.  Her experience also extends into supporting commercial and industrial customers, decentralised energy resources and energy efficiency.  Sarah is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Asset Management Council and hold a Senior Executive MBA from Melbourne Business School, a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (Chemical and Process), and is a Chartered Engineer, EngExec and Fellow of Engineers Australia.

Peter is a 28-year veteran of the energy sector, Fellow of the AICD and previously Chair for an energy industry advocacy association. He is currently the APAC Director (Power and Energy Transition) at Worley where he advises government and private sector clients on energy transition matters including renewable generation and energy storage, grid development, decarbonisation solutions, carbon abatement, power regulation and economics, and has developed and had operational responsibility for solar, wind, geothermal and storage technologies in Australia and internationally. He has previous Board experience in both not-for-profit and renewable energy development companies and holds BSc, FAICD and MBA qualifications.

Biography

Trevor’s career in the energy industry began over 15 years ago as a power systems engineer with NEMMCO/AEMO.  He has worked across many segments of the industry including generation, transmission, and distribution in Australia and Canada. Trevor is currently Head of Grid and Markets at Total Energies Renewables Australia where he leads a multi-disciplinary team that manage the grid connection process for development of new renewable assets, market operations of existing assets and policy engagement. Trevor was Deputy Chair of the Market and Grid CEC directorate in 2021.

Trevor believes in the value and effectiveness of the Clean Energy Council and wants to see the organisation extend its influence. Trevor has a deep understanding of some of the most complex challenges that the sector is currently facing and is seeking the opportunity to help collaborate on priorities and position the CEC for continued success. Ashley Mangano is an Australian energy executive with over 20 years of global experience, with an MBA from Oxford University and a graduate of the AICD. His expertise encompasses both renewable and thermal energy sectors, focusing on corporate governance, strategic growth, and the execution of large-scale energy projects across Australia, Europe, and North America. Currently, Mr Mangano serves as Vice President and Board Member of NHOA Energy Australia, leading the development of energy storage infrastructure critical to Australia’s clean energy future and has previously held board positions with non-renewable energy companies. Ashley is deeply commitment to fostering our cleaner energy system while ensuring this opportunity maximises economic and social benefits for all Australians.

Dan is an experienced energy professional with nearly two decades in Australian and UK energy markets, spanning policy, strategy, governance and commercial issues. Currently serving as Regulatory and Markets Principal at EnergyAustralia, he manages policy and regulation, tackling complex areas including wholesale and financial markets, energy security, and grid operations. Dan is also the current chair of CEC’s Market, Investment, and Grid Directorate and sits on AEMO’s Reform Delivery Committee. He has previously held senior roles with Alinta Energy, AGL Energy and in the Australian public service.

Katherine McConnell is the Founder & CEO of Brighte, a tech platform dedicated to making sustainable homes affordable & accessible in Australia. Recognised as Australia's Outstanding Fintech Leader of the Year in 2018 and 2021, she has won numerous other accolades, including the Telstra Business Women’s Award. Katherine serves as a Non-Executive Board Member of the Australian Finance Industry Association (AFIA) and has also served as a Councilor on the University of Wollongong Council. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce, a Bachelor of Arts, a Masters of Applied Finance, and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Alex is a customer-focused, professional engineering leader over 20 years’ experience in utilities & a passion for delivering innovative ideas, with the aim of transforming Australia’s energy landscape for a cleaner & smarter future. Alex is an electrical engineer responsible for managing several teams & business lines that provide exceptional energy services to customers. Alex has deep knowledge of the Australian regulatory framework across economic regulation, metering & connections, as well as strong skills in asset & risk management.

I have been privileged to be a CEC board member for the past two years & Chair of the Risk & Finance Committee for the last year. I am seeking re-election to the board to continue driving the success of the CEC as the peak body for clean energy in Australia. The Australian political landscape is changing which demands a strong industry voice with a clear strategy to ensure our progress to net zero continues at pace. I am keen to continue my role in driving this strategy, as well as guiding the strong financial performance of the CEC.

Danny Nielsen is a respected contributor to the wind industry and a pioneer in the renewable energy sector. With decades of experience in markets across Australia, New Zealand, Asia Pacific, China and Europe, Danny Nielsen also carries a deep understanding of Vestas – the world’s leading designer, installer and maintainer of wind turbines. He successfully managed a range of executive positions in the company for up to 21 years. This included the Head Chief Operating Officer for Vestas Asia Pacific & China. In addition to contributing to various industry Boards, Danny also worked with Blue Power Partners from 2019 to the end of 2021.

Wind energy will play a major role in Australia’s clean energy mix hence, the representation of a wind energy OEM like Vestas on the Clean Energy Council’s Board of Directors will be highly beneficial. Danny Nielsen SVP Country Head of Vestas Australia & New Zealand is the nominated representative for Vestas. With Vestas’ highly active pipeline across construction and emerging projects, while drawing on their experience and partnerships throughout the entire supply chain (development, grid connection, transport, civil and electrical subcontracting), Vestas will innovative and insightful guidance to Board of Directors matters. Additionally, Danny brings more than 20 years of wind experience, with a genuine passion to progress Australia’s clean energy future.

Biography

I have over 30 years’ experience across the energy landscape encompassing electricity, mining, oil & gas, research and development sectors ensuring a strong understanding along the entire energy value chain.  Currently leading Hitachi Energy in Australia, we are enabling the digital transformation and delivering pioneering technologies to drive the energy transition with our customers and partners. I am a graduate of the AICD.  My board experience ranges from acting as an Alternate Director for a CSIRO CRC through to my current position as a member of the Hitachi Energy Australia board and various international subsidiaries.

Harshal Patel is a CPEng with over 10 years of industry experience in transmission & renewables across Australia and New Zealand. Brett Redman is a highly experienced energy industry executive at the centre of Australia’s clean energy transition. He was appointed CEO of Transgrid in 2021, tasked with leading the build of the nation’s energy super-highways, involving some of Australia’s largest ever transmission projects. Brett’s three decades of leadership experience, include nearly 15 years at AGL Energy, including as CEO and Managing Director. He is the former Chair of the Australian Energy Council, a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a proud member of the Champions of Change coalition, personally taking the lead on gender equality actions.

Ross is Chair and CEO of Iberdrola Australia, formerly Infigen Energy. Ross has decades of experience in the energy and infrastructure sectors in executive management, government, and strategic roles. In 2008, Ross was appointed CEO of Alinta Energy during this time he completed a capital restructuring of the business and stepped down 2011. Ross was CEO of Stanwell Corporation (2001-2005) – a pioneer of the Australian renewable energy industry. He also served as the Chair of CS Energy (2012-2015). Ross was Director-General of Queensland Government Departments, including: Premier & Cabinet, State Development, and Environment & Heritage, as well as Coordinator-General.

As AECOM’s Regional Business Line Director for Environment and Energy, she leads 700 professionals across Australia and New Zealand. A graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), Heidi brings four years of not-for-profit board experience, including three as Deputy Chair of the Australian Power Institute. She is a recognised industry leader, named in The Australian’s Top 100 Green Leaders in 2023, and served as a technical advisor to ARENA over 4 years, advancing Australia’s renewable energy agenda.

As a CEO leading Australian and Asian operations for a multinational based in Europe, I have a broad perspective on markets, standards, laws and regulations. As a former journalist and political advisor, Joanna is a trusted advisor in corporate boardrooms, the corridors of Parliament House and regional communities. She’s developed social licence and engagement strategies for industry-leading projects including the world’s biggest battery, Australia’s largest wind farm, and multiple BESS and transmission initiatives. Under Joanna’s leadership, she’s implemented a transformative program enabling the firm to expand across Australia while remaining firmly grounded in regional communities.

Josef Tadich is a Chartered Professional Engineer, starting his career as an engineer in the Royal Australian Navy, Josef transitioned to renewable energy, building deep market and technical expertise across wind and battery technologies as both a developer and an OEM. 

Josef joined Tesla Energy in 2015 to lead the engineering team, and in 2022 became Regional Director for Tesla Energy and executive Director for Tesla Motors Australia, overseeing a growing $6B+ EV and battery storage business. He holds engineering and energy Masters degrees from UNSW, RMIT, and Melbourne University, and is a Graduate of the AICD.

Sally is the National Renewables Deals Leader at KPMG, with more than 20 years of experience. Sally has focused on major projects and transactions in clean energy generation, transmission, distribution, and retail. She is a dual qualified power system engineer and lawyer with deep expertise in clean energy and decarbonisation-related investments across wind, solar, batteries, pumped hydro, and transmission infrastructure. Prior to KPMG, Sally worked at Origin and Energy Australia. She is a graduate of the AICD, and has served on a number of board and she is currently serving PlanetArk.

I possess over 24 years of experience, working across CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy (CPPUE); AusNet Services; the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission; and the Australian Energy Regulator. For eight years, I have been General Manager of Regulation, I sit on the Executive Management Team and report directly to the CEO and Victoria Powers Network and UE Board. I have a number of responsibilities including the development of CPPUE’s $9 billion five-year investment plan.  I am also responsible for customer engagement, strategy, compliance and government liaison.  I have a Bachelor of Commerce and Arts from Melbourne University and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Directors Course.

I lead Neoen’s NSW development team and I’m responsible for team management, strategic decision making, pipeline growth and key stakeholder engagement. I was responsible for developing and implementing procedures for the management of modern slavery supply chain risks under the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth). As Managing Director, I Chair ACCIONA Energia’s Investment and Governance committees and am responsible for our 200+ staff members nationwide.
