The following statement is attributable to Clean Energy Council Chief Executive, Kane Thornton
“Australia’s future energy system requires a portfolio of different generation sources.
“Australia has enormous potential in offshore wind. This could play a huge role in powering our country’s energy system in the future, driving down power prices as well as creating enormous numbers of jobs and economic opportunities in areas like South-West Victoria.
“This industry is in its infancy and there is a lot of work to do to explore this opportunity and develop a strong regulatory framework and address any community or environmental issues.
Calls for the abolition of these zones are a handbrake on investment and jobs in regional Australia and risk limiting our nation’s ability to get power prices down. The Clean Energy Council wants to work with all levels of government and local communities to get the settings right, ensure power generation is in the right locations and create jobs while taking the pressure off local family and business energy bills.Kane Thornton Clean Energy Council Chief Executive
