The following statement is attributable to Clean Energy Council Chief Executive, Kane Thornton:
“Any decision to stall the progress of much-needed Nature Positive reforms to the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act risks missing a crucial opportunity to address one of the most significant challenges facing investment in renewable energy projects across Australia.
“The current iteration of the EPBC Act and its inherent limitations are a cause of significant delays to the construction of new renewable energy infrastructure needed to ensure that Australia meets its climate and emissions reduction targets.
The Government’s move to establish the new Environment Protection Australia (EPA) and Environment Information Australia (EIA) is a welcome step in the right direction to achieve this goal and the Bills to establish both must pass in this term of government. This will help facilitate the progression of Stage Three reforms which are crucial for reforming environmental impact assessment.Kane Thornton Clean Energy Council Chief Executive
