The following is attributable to Clean Energy Council Chief Executive Officer, Jackie Trad:

“The Clean Energy Council welcomes the landmark commitment from the NSW Energy Security Corporation (ESC) to establish four large-scale battery infrastructure across the state.

“Utility-scale batteries are already transforming Australia’s energy system for the better, and will play a critical role in maintaining reliability as coal-fired power stations retire in the years ahead.

“This announcement sends a clear signal to the market that coal-fired generation is approaching the end of its economic life, and that the reliability and security of the future electricity system will increasingly be delivered by advanced battery storage technologies underpinned by renewable energy.

“Strategically locating these batteries in high-demand regions across NSW will maximise system efficiency, strengthen energy security and help keep downward pressure on power prices.”
