Reckless Coalition energy plan would take Australia backward

“Ten years ago, waging a culture war on renewables was politically advantageous. In 2026, it is economic nihilism.

“When clean energy projects are pouring billions of dollars into Australia and creating thousands of jobs, turning our back on this investment is reckless and short-sighted. It hurts our economy, it risks our future and, above all, it will make everyday Australians more vulnerable to global shocks and price volatility.

"The Coalition’s eight-point plan collapses under the weight of its contradictions, promising abundant energy supply while cancelling new generation and dismantling investor certainty.

"The only vestige of sustainability in this plan is the recycling of old ideas that Australians thought they'd already voted to leave behind.

“Most of these Tony Abbott-era policies were put to the Australian public at the last election, and they were resoundingly rejected.

“Australians have broadly embraced renewables, not only in our politics but in their own homes and garages, with sky-rocketing demand for household solar, batteries and EVs.

“Our old coal generation must be replaced now, and new demand must be met now. This is not a time for games; it is a time for serious decisions about the energy security of Australians.

“This Coalition plan is a plan for taking Australia backwards. It’s a return to the past that nobody asked for – and everybody knows will come at the expense of everyday Australians.”
