Connecting the women in renewables
The Mentoring Program plays a key role in supporting women working in the renewable energy industry to develop their skills and build their professional networks. Mentoring relationships support women's career progression, which is crucial not only for retaining more women in the industry but also ensuring that they move into leadership roles.
For mentors, the program provides a brilliant opportunity to join the Clean Energy Council’s commitment to championing gender diversity in the renewable energy industry.

The mentoring program runs for four months. At a minimum, participants are required to attend an introductory online webinar and to meet with their mentoring partner once a month for the duration of the program. We use a tailor-made matching process for pairing mentees with mentors. With a surplus of mentee applicants, we unfortunately cannot match all those who apply.
Applications to participate as a mentee are open to individuals who meet the following criteria:
- identify themselves as a woman; and
- be currently employed by a Clean Energy Council member organisation.
Applicants can come from any career level and job category. It is important to note that this program is designed to be mentee-led and mentee applicants must be prepared to drive the mentoring relationship.
Applications to participate as a mentor are open to both women and men working in the renewable energy industry who possess the following:
- an appropriate level of experience and knowledge of the industry; and
- the relevant interpersonal skills to support a mentee in their professional development journey (i.e. ability to actively listen and to provide honest, concrete feedback).
Both mentee and mentor applicants can come from around Australia and we strongly encourage those from regional areas to apply.
The 2025 mentoring program will open for applications in early 2025. Expressions of interest can be made directly to the Women in Renewables team at women@cleanenergycouncil.org.au.
“The 2024 CEC Mentoring Program was an incredible opportunity for me as someone new to the renewable energy sector. My mentor provided a structured approach that guided our discussions on a range of topics I wanted to address. It was a refreshing way to explore questions, challenges, and experiences in a safe space, helping me bridge gaps that I hadn’t been able to address within my workplace.Through the program, I not only found a mentor but also gained a senior friend—someone who was open, honest, professional, and a fantastic role model for my future in the industry. This program is a 10/10 experience, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone, no matter where they are in their career journey. It offers a unique, safe space to ask the brave and honest questions that can often feel daunting elsewhere.” Jana Birkby, Acciona (mentee)
