The CSIRO's latest GenCost report reconfirms renewables remain the lowest-cost way to meet Australia’s growing energy needs.

Clean Energy Council CEO, Jackie Trad, said the findings back Australia's current course of action.

"We have the most sun on earth and some of the best renewable energy resources anywhere. Powering our country with them is just common sense," Ms Trad said.

"Wind, solar, hydro and batteries are mature technologies being deployed at scale right now, and the data keeps showing our current course is the most secure way to keep the lights on and the most affordable for households."

The report finds nuclear is the most expensive generation option for Australia, even when modelled on South Korea's highly efficient deployment. With 12 GW of coal-fired power set to exit the grid over the next five to seven years, the report’s findings confirm that pursuing clean energy sources is right path to deliver our energy security needs at scale.

"With 12 GW of coal retiring over the next five to seven years, we don't have time to continue debating nuclear, which would take decades to deliver. CSIRO's report again shows nuclear is not a realistic option and we urge policymakers to reach consensus on a renewable-led pathway forward," she said.
