Australians are driving a record surge in home batteries

Our Rooftop solar and storage report, July to December 2025 shows a record 183,245 batteries were sold in Australia in the second half of 2025 alone.

This figure is more than the previous four years combined.

Key insights from the report

Australia’s rooftop solar uptake continues to lead our national renewables rollout
Rooftop solar PV now accounts for 28.3 GW of installed capacity, eclipsing that of the country’s entire fleet of coal-fired generators (22.5 GW). In the second half of 2025, rooftop solar contributed 14.2% of electricity generated in Australia, nearly doubling its achievement since 2020, when it contributed 7.2%.
New South Wales and Queensland continue to vie for the title of Australia’s top solar state
NSW continues to boast the highest level of total installed capacity of rooftop PV at nearly 8 GW, while QLD remains the state with the most installations, at 1.16 million.
The industry is meeting demand and offering consumers more choice than ever
The Clean Energy Council approved nearly 500 new battery models as meeting appropriate quality and safety standards in the second half of 2025.

"My electricity bill is basically down to zero. The last one was $2, the one before that $6."

Now, we need to unlock the full value of Australia’s home batteries with VPPs

Sharing energy with the grid through virtual power plants (VPPs) can bring down electricity costs for everyone and earn battery owners’ additional savings of $106 per quarter without sacrificing energy independence.

That’s why it’s critical industry and governments work together to raise greater consumer awareness of the many benefits of VPPs.

“The return from energy bill savings looked good. It really was a no-brainer”
